WORK SCOPE

Script Writing, Storyboarding, Motion Graphics

PROJECT DATE

May – August 2024

This motion graphics project I worked on while at Cyan Solutions was a blast; I got to have my hands in every part of producing these video assets. From script development to final rendering, I was able to work with the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT) team on a promotional piece for one of their key platforms, the CASLT CoLab. This web-based platform gives CASLT members a place to connect and share their experiences as language teachers, while also giving them a chance to have fun with professional development through features such as leaderboard rankings after completing lessons.

Developing A Flexible Script

The CASLT CoLab has a lot of amazing features that had to be emphasised in a one-minute video and a thirty second video. Planning/building out a script that would allow for easy voiceover editing and easier transition points were key. I ensured that this intent was instilled in the script by providing script proofs and feedback for both a full and shortened script to the Cyan Marketing team.

Putting The Pieces Together

These promotional videos were to be created in English and French, so I undertook a lot of research for voiceover artists who would amplify the inviting/fun tone and cadence of the videos. I also explored, in detail, background music tracks that could be easily edited to help fit the scene movements and different video durations. I acquired the final voiceover and music, and formed animatics with the approved style frames in a way that I could edit in the voiceover and music together and solidify the timing of each scene.

The Final Product

When I was happy with the pacing and breaks for all the audio and scenes, I began doing my first pass of scene building and animating. I wanted to get all the different elements in and establish any rigs that would be needed throughout the videos. With the first pass done, I started fine-tuning the easing of all the animations to ensure similar velocity and timing throughout. After this was complete, I submitted a proof of the main video to the client, who shared feedback points on a few minor details in the video. After the one-minute video was complete, I went on to breaking down the compositions to form the thirty-second video. Breaking up the script into featured sections and building all the animations out into different compositions helped in composing the final, shorter video.

With final feedback integrated, the assets were rendered out for optimal web-streaming, and the project was complete. The client was ecstatic about all the final videos, and the primary one is currently live on the CASLT CoLab site as an informative video about the platform.
